REVIEW: ATROCIOUS (DVD)



If you’re going to call your film Atrocious, you better make sure you know what you’re doing. With obvious comparisons to The Blair Witch Project (1999), Paranormal Activity (2007) and Spanish shocker [REC] (2007), director Fernando Barreda Luna has decided his first feature will slip uncomfortably inside a sub-genre of horror you either love or loathe, already overflowing with cheap, inferior imitations draining the battery of the dreaded camcorder dry. Can Atrocious recharge a labouring breed?


The Quintanilla family travel to their old farm house in Sitges, where Christian and July, two bored siblings, investigate the Legend of the Girl in the Garraf woods, using video cameras to record their findings.
Five days later, on 4th April 2010, the children are found murdered in their rural abode. Police report the existence of 37 hours of recorded evidence which has been edited together into the footage we are about to be shown…
