In 2012, Longman Leung and Sunny Luk's Cold War, a crime blockbuster about the security crisis and police infighting that unfold after a police van gets hijacked, swept nine awards at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards including Best Film. Four years later, the cast and crew return for the even bigger sequel which outpaced its predecessor to become the highest-grossing Chinese-language film of all time in Hong Kong. If we're totally honest here at TwistedWing, it didn't grab us in the way we had hoped.
However, we can still have big hopes for Cold War 2, which brings back original stars Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung Ka Fai as high-ranking police brass, and adds Chow Yun Fat as an influential barrister. Eddie Peng, Aarif Lee and Charlie Young also reprise their roles along with new joiners Chang Kwok Chu, Tony Yang and Janice Man. Cold War 2 is released on Hong Kong DVD and Blu-ray, with English subtitles, on October 19. Check out the trailer below.
